Itinerary Overview
Your Mount Kenya adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from Nairobi. After a scenic 3-hour drive to Nanyuki, we’ll head to the Naromoru Gate, the entry point to Mount Kenya National Park.
From the gate, the trek follows a well-maintained track along the crest of a broad ridge, offering stunning views of the Northern and Southern Naro Moru valleys. The walk is gentle and enjoyable, taking you through lush forests and past a picturesque bridge. About two-thirds of the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Northern Naro Moru Valley.
By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Met Station (3,300m), where you’ll enjoy a hearty dinner and rest for the night.
Overnight: Met Station Camp
After an early breakfast at 8AM, we’ll head uphill, passing the radio mast on our right. The trail transitions from a forest track to a rugged path, and after about 1 hour, you’ll leave the forest belt behind and enter the enchanting moorland zone.
This section can be a bit challenging, especially if it’s wet, as the terrain turns into a vertical bog. But don’t worry—the stunning views and unique landscape make it worth the effort. As you continue, the trail improves, and you’ll reach a fork overlooking the dramatic Teleki Valley. From there, it’s a short trek to Mackinders Camp (4,200m), where you’ll spend the night.
Overnight: Mackinders Camp
The highlight of your adventure begins at 3:00 AM with a pre-dawn start. This early ascent ensures you reach Point Lenana in time for a spectacular sunrise. The climb is challenging but incredibly rewarding, with the African sunrise painting the sky in vibrant colors. On a clear day, you might even spot Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance!
After celebrating your summit success and capturing unforgettable photos, we’ll descend to Mackinders Camp for a well-deserved breakfast. From there, we’ll continue down to Met Station Camp for lunch before driving back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.
Why Choose This Trek?
From lush rainforests to alpine moorlands, Mount Kenya offers some of Africa’s most diverse landscapes.
Standing atop Point Lenana at sunrise is a moment you’ll cherish forever.
