6-Day Marangu Route
Kilimanjaro Trekking Adventure
The Marangu Route is the only route on Kilimanjaro that offers sleeping huts instead of camping. These dormitory-style accommodations provide a more comfortable experience for trekkers. Each hut is equipped with bunk beds—60 beds at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Guests are provided with mattresses and pillows, but you’ll still need to bring your own sleeping bag. The huts feature communal dining halls and basic washroom facilities, which vary depending on the altitude: flushing toilets and running water are available at the lower huts, while long-drop toilets and bucket water are provided at Kibo Hut.
The Marangu Route is often favored for its gradual slope and direct path, making it one of the easiest routes on the mountain. However, its shorter duration (typically 5-6 days) can make altitude acclimatization more challenging compared to longer routes. The route approaches Kilimanjaro from the southeast and follows the same path for both ascent and descent. While this makes navigation straightforward, it also means the route is less scenic compared to others, as trekkers don’t experience the varied landscapes offered by circular routes. Additionally, Marangu is the most crowded route due to its popularity and accessibility
